Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies beat Rivers Angels 1-0 to register their second consecutive win at the inaugural CAF Women’s African Champions League on Tuesday, 9 October 2021, in Egypt.

Zanele Nhlapho’s goal in the 17th minute of the match was enough to secure the three points for the South Africans in their Group B encounter over their opponents from Kenya.

After winning their opener against Vihiga Queens, Sundowns have six points from two matches, with Queens and Morocco’s AS FAR on three points, leaving River Angels pointless at this stage.

Speaking to cafonline.com, head coach Jerry Tshabalala said: “It was a very tough game for us, we tried to play our football, but it was difficult. I’m not completely happy with the performance, as we couldn’t score more.”

Sundowns’ final group stage encounter is against AS Far and Tshabalala is weary of his team’s opponents: “I’ve seen AS FAR more than once; it will be an open game as they like to play in a way similar to us. They will be very dangerous. Anything can happen in football, so we have to be cautious.”

Sundowns’ Oratile Mokwena was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance on the evening.
