Laureus Sport South Africa announced Marlene Coetzee-George as their new Chief Executive Officer on Thursday, 1 July 2021.

George has been a trustee of the Sport for Good Foundation for a number of years and has played a significant role in the development of sport among the youth.

In the official announcement, Coetzee said: “My passion for Laureus and in particular the methodology used to deliver sport for good is deeply engrained in my DNA.”

Her notable contribution to the development of youth sports saw George involved in the 2014 Laureus Youth Empowerment Through Sport (YES) programme, which saw 30 graduates successfully complete the year’s programme.

The aim of the programme was to develop youth leaders from a range of sport for social change across South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique and Ghana, most of which are supported by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
