The inaugural Women’s The Hundred auction was held on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, in London, and dynamic Proteas all-rounder Nadine de Klerk was among the top earners, fetching a remarkable £170,000 (R3,796,000).
Renowned for her powerful batting, she is also expected to play a key role in death bowling for the London Spirit Women this season.
Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney were the players who hit the jackpot when it came to the historic auction, as the pair went for a whopping £210,000 each (R4,656,000).
New Zealander Devine will play for the Welsh Fire, and Australian Mooney, who was part of a bidding war between Trent Rockets and Manchester Originals, will be in the city of Nottingham after the Rockets managed to secure her signature. Dani Gibson recorded the third highest bid as she joined the Sunrisers Leeds for £190 000 (R4,200,000).
Other notable South African players who will participate in the Hundred are Marizanne Kapp and Protea Women’s captain Laura Wolvaardt. The pair, however, were not part of the auction as they were pre-season signings, and joined for £130,000 (R2,882,000) and £75,000 (R1,663,000), respectively.
Kapp will be a teammate of De Klerk at the London Spirit, while Wolvaardt is on the Southern Brave Women’s books. Meanwhile, former South African international and now Australian citizen Lizelle Lee will also put her scoring proficiency on show as she went for £27,500 (R609,730) and will join Wolvaardt at the Southern Brave Women.
This is the first time an auction mechanism was used, with a draft system in place in previous years. The change is welcome, giving prominence to the capital from private investors, with several teams rebranding to give effect to their affiliation to Indian Premier League franchises.
The salary caps for this year’s edition of the competition were doubled, and were set at £880,000 (R19,511,237).
