South Africa’s SPAR Proteas will contest in the 5th/6th place playoff, after missing out on progressing to the semi-final round of the 2023 Netball World Cup at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Thursday, 3 August.
Going into the match, the South Africans knew at the back of their minds that they had to win by 64 goals or more to stand a chance to pip defending champions, New Zealand, to go through to the final four.
From the onset, both sides showed intent and passion, however it was South Africa who led the first two quarters.
After the half-time break, there was a change of fortunes for Norma Plummer’s side as Uganda came out guns blazing to win the remaining two quarters.
South Africa will now shift focus to their 5th/6th place playoff match, which will see them face the loser from the game between Tonga and Malawi on Friday, 4 August at 6pm CAT.
