Peninsula will go into day 3 with a 100% record as worthy log leaders, and the +3 goal difference will be welcome, should their remaining pool matches against a resurgent Witwatersrand on Wednesday, Border on Thursday, and lowly Free State on Friday prove more than difficult.

Teams in the middle of the log include Eastern Province, Witwatersrand, Border and the KZN Mynahs, all with three points.

Among the throng, EP’s goal difference +2 puts them on top of the pile, should an even-points position come into play come Saturday.

In day 2’s first game, Free State took on the KZN Mynahs, and the girls from the coast improved on day 1’s performance to notch up their first win of the tournament, going 1 better than Free State to take the game 2-1 care of goals by Emma Finlayson and Donne Oxenham.

Free State will be glad to have scored a goal care of Michelle Groenewald, but two losses in 2 days will be difficult to come back from.

Witwatersrand also turned around a first-day loss in their game against Border, building strongly on a 1-0 half-time score by Sune Beukes with two more in the second by Kirsten du Toit and Catherine McNulty.

Eastern Province will be disappointed following their strong start against Witwatersrand yesterday, after they were edged 2-1 by Peninsula today in the day’s final game Pool B.

EP’s goal by Liezl Dorothy in the second half wasn’t enough to match two earlier goals by L’Nanda Pienaar and Jenny-Lee Lowin.

Free state will start proceedings on Wednesday against an EP team that likes to score goals, and they will have to net a few balls to remain in contention for the remainder of the tournament.
