Legendary South African Hockey player and one of the best strikers in the game, Pietie Coetzee-Turner has been appointed as the Assistant Coach of the USA’s U21 National field hockey women’s team, according to an official announcement on Wednesday, 30 January 2024.
Coetzee-Turner, who is a FIH Level 3 and South Africa Level 3 certified coach and a graduate of the WeCoach Academy, brings a wealth of experience to the U21 Team.
Speaking on her appointment Coetzee-Turner, “I am truly honoured to step into the role of the U-21 assistant coach position. This is not just a position, it is a commitment to fostering the growth, potential and dreams of our exceptional young athletes.
“Together, we embark on the journey fuelled by passion, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence.”

Coetzee-Turner joined the USA Field Hockey Women’s National Team as a Specialist Coach in March 2023 and with her new appointment, she continues to make her mark on a global scale.
Arguably one of the most highly regarded strikers in the world, Coetzee-Turner is a three-time Olympian representing South Africa at the Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, and London 2012 Olympic Games. She also played in four World Cups and was named the tournament’s leading scorer in 2002.
