Proteas Training Squad Announced

Convenor of the Women’s national selection panel, Denise Reid, has announced a 23-member squad that will assemble at the High Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria for a training camp from 28-30 December 2008 as South Africa steps up its preparations for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup taking place in three months time in Australia.

(Boland) have received their first call up to the national team.

national captain, Alison Hodgkinson has also been recalled. The 23rd member of the squad is Shibnam Ismail (Western
Province), who together with Marizanne
Kapp (Eastern Province), has trained with the senior
side before.

"The World Cup in Australia is the biggest event on
our calendar and we have been working hard for the last 4 years to prepare
for this prestigious event," said the Convenor. 

"We are looking to get our best possible team
ready for this event and have been blessed with good performances in our
provincial league.  It is an opportunity for the girls to perform at their
best against the best, and I expect a good challenge between the players to be
in the final squad."

The squad will be divided into two groups and
play a 50-over per side match on the second day of the camp at the Mamelodi

Province), Marcia Letsoalo
(Northerns), Sunette Loubser (Boland), Analie Minny (Free
State), Alicia Smith (Boland), Claire Terblanche (Eastern Province),
Kirsty Thompson (Gauteng)
and Dané van Niekerk (Northerns).

Proposed B Team: Olivia Anderson (Western Province),
Cri-Zelda Brits (Gauteng), Moseline Daniels
(Boland), Denisha Devnarain (KwaZulu-Natal),
Mignon du Preez (Northerns), Shandré Fritz (Western
Province), Marizanne Kapp (Eastern Province),
Melissa Smook (Northerns), Daleen Terblanche (Gauteng), Charlize van der Westhuizen
(Northerns) and Yolandi van der Westhuizen (Boland).
