A record entry of over 120 surfers has been received for the Roxy Wahine Cup presented by Peugeot and Samsung which starts today (December 1) and ends on Sunday (December 3) when the Roxy Wahine Cup winners will be crowned on the lawns of the Suncoast Beach in Durban.
This year the novice division has attracted first time competitors from all over the country and with first prize for this division an annual Roxy sponsorship, competition could be fierce. Apart from the sponsorship deal finalists in this unique division will also win cash and product prizes.
In the U14 division SA Champion Sarah Baum (Athlone Park) takes on Bianca Buitendag (Victoria Bay), Heidi Palmboom (Bluff), Holly Armstrong (Kommetjie), Puvashnee Nydoo (Umhlatazana) and a host of challengers who will all be vying for top spot in this tight division.
Talented Kirsty Delport (Dbn) has been training hard for this event and is determined to get a good result in the U-16 division where she will come up against the likes of Chantelle Rautenbach and Caylin de Reuck, both from Melkbos.
The U-18 division boasts red-hot surfers like Katie Goldreich (Dbn), Lisa Mace (Kommetjie), Danielle Johnson (Ocean View) along with Bronwyn Chudleigh (Kommetjie) and current SA Champion Nikita Robb (East London).
The Open division is stacked with talent such Nicole Annells (Warner Beach), Stacey Guy (Melkbosstrand), Tasha Mentasti (DBN), Tamarys de Maroussem (Westbrook), Tanika Hoffman (Kommetjie), Sarah Johnston Maritz (Amanzimtoti), the Matthews twins, Kate and Sarah (St Francis Bay), the Robarts twins, Tammy and Penny (Somerset West), Roxy Towill (Kommetjie), Nikita Robb and Tammy Lee Smith (Salt Rock) are all aiming for top spot. First place in the Open division of the Roxy Wahine Cup is a 3A rated PST event and offers R15000 in prize money with the winner scooping R10000.
The Saturday night the Rock Concert On The Beach presented by Roxy will take place on the special stage on the Suncoast sundeck. The event will feature performances by popular bands Love Jones, Driverlane and the massive Parlotones and tickets, which are only R30 for those people not surfing in the Wahine Cup, are available at Quicksilver Boardriders Club and TSS Concept Stores country wide.

The weekend will also launch the popular Roxy Learn To Surf Tour, which takes place simultaneously at prime South African East and West coasts beaches across the coastline. Aspiring surfers will be coached by professional surfing coaches, Kenny Matthews, Roxy Towill and Riehan Slabbert at these clinics.
The East Coast Tour starts on Saturday December 2 at Suncoast Beach, heads down the coast and finishes on January 4 in Mossel Bay. The West Coast Tour starts December 9 at Table View and finishes on December 30 in Hermanus.
