Defending Champion Ashleigh Simon shot a reasonable first-round 1-under par 71 to stay in contention for the 2007 Sanlam SA Amateurs at the George Golf Club on Sunday, but it was Kelli Shean who took a three-shot lead, signing for a four-under 68, and putting good numbers behind her ambitions of a good performance in this year’s tournament.
Kim Williams rounds out the top three, placing second with Simon, and followed by Caitlin Beckwith, Sarah Faller, Rushda Mallick, Pam Hayward and Mercia Pretorius, who all finished the first day one-over par 73 to stay near the leaders.
