South African Hockey has announced its goal for the women’s national team to win an eighth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations title at the 9th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ismailia, Egypt, from October 11 to 18, 2025.
This tournament holds significant importance as it doubles as the African qualifying event for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.
The champions will secure direct qualification, making it a crucial opportunity for South Africa to secure its sole berth in the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup.
The women’s team enters the tournament as defending champions, having won the last seven consecutive editions, and the objective in 2025 is to extend this remarkable streak to eight, and to solidify their position as Africa’s sole representative at the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup.
The tournament will be played as a round-robin competition from 11 to 17 October, featuring the five African qualifiers, and will culminate in medal matches on 18 October, with the women’s champion emerging victorious and securing the direct World Cup spot.
The South African women’s squad was officially announced in August 2025, comprising a diverse mix of seasoned campaigners and emerging talent.

This combination of experience and emerging talent ensures that South Africa remains a formidable force in the women’s hockey world.
