Kathleen Shuttleworth and Ronel Nattrass claimed victory at the 2013 ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun, presented by New Balance, the two for Team Mizuno completed the three-stage trail run in a combined time of 7 hours, 51 minutes and 43 seconds in Elgin, Grabouw, on Sunday, 21 April 2013.

Chantel Nienaber and Kerry Sillifant (Team Running Wild) finished in 08:17:21 for silver, narrowly ahead of the Team Columbia duo Theresa Fourie and Belinda Noades in 08:19:49, who completed the winner’s podium well ahead of fourth-placed Jana Trojan and Tracy Forbes for Team Cereal Killers.

Shuttleworth and Nattrass took no chances completing the stage in a well-deserved time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 47 seconds, commenting later that the Stage Three route was very easy. “We were very relaxed today.

“We did push harder in the beginning so that we wouldn’t have any pressure at the end. The route was very nice with rolling hills and a tough bit towards the end. The ProNutro AfricanX route is really friendly and ideal for road runners transitioning into trail running.

“I am very relieved to successfully defend my title. I’m not sure whether I’ll be back next year, I’m getting too old for racing,” laughs Shuttleworth.

Husband and wife duo Landie and Christiaan Greyling (Team iON Salomon) continued their mixed team dominance, winning in 7 hours, 28 minutes and 59 seconds. “We are relieved that the race is over, but elated to have won,” says Landie. “We did some real trail running today!”

“Both Christiaan and I felt strong and are pleased with our strong finish. The ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun was perfectly organised and is ideal for every kind of runner whether a novice or a professional.

“It presents you with a nice challenge, while having a great vibe. We’ll definitely be back next year”. Su and Iain Don Wauchope of Team Mountain Splendour came in second, while Guy Morel and Ingrid Peens of Team Fleet Foxes finished third.
