Simoné Kruger Breaks Records at Winelands International Para Athletes Competition

Para-athlete Simoné Kruger recorded two African records at the Winelands International Para Athletes Competition at Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch on Saturday, 11 February 2023.

The 18-year-old will now be number 1 on the World Rankings after she recorded a best throw of 34,39m in the discus and a well deserved distance of 12,14m in the shot put. The youngster now only needs 50cm to break the shot put World Record.

Kruger accumulated 1050 Raza points for shot put and 968 Raza points in discus.

*Raza points is a method in paralympic athletes field competitions for competing throws or jumps by athletes of differing levels of disabilities.

Speaking on her results, Kruger told gsport: ” It feels amazing to know you worked so hard to achieve this and now that my rankings are higher, I can work on the big competitions coming up soon, like Nationals. It lifts a big weight off my back.”
