The South Africans showed intent from the start of the match, creating early opportunities, however, could not find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes.
The same story played out in the second half as both teams had their fair share of chances and piled on the pressure but were not clinical enough in the final third to break the deadlock.
The match was forced into extra time as players from both teams had to dig deep with many tired legs on the pitch.
With the score remaining at 0-0 after extra time, it was penalties that eventually decided the winner, however, it was not an easy task as the two teams went toe-to-toe for a spot in the final.
Coach Jerry Tshabalala’s side managed to earn a 5-4 victory in what was a dramatic affair.
Sundowns will face Hasaacas Ladies from Ghana in the final on Friday, 19 November 2021.
