Team Isigungu call from Holland

gsport has been contacted by all-girl sailing consisting of Dominique Provoyeur, Penny Alison and Kim Rew, who are currently campaigning as Team Isigungu to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

 
Their campaign began unofficially in 2002 when the team qualified for the ISAF World Sailing Games, and competed in the J22 Class.
 
This was their first real introduction to international keelboat racing, and since then, the girls have had the Games in the back of their minds.
 
Finally in 2005, after the Yngling was selected as an Olympic Class for 2004, the team’s dream of competing in 2008 in keelboats seemed more of a possibility.

Picture courtesy Team Isigungu.Since then they have bought three boats, two of which are kept in South Africa for training, and the third one is their brand-new Mader-built boat, which is used for racing, and stays in France when they return home to South Africa.
 
Having a boat in Europe is essential as shipping to and from Europe is very costly, and would interfere with critical training time.
 
Thanks to MACS Shipping, who has afforded them complimentary shipping between Cape Town and Europe, the team has been able to compete on the European circuit, allowing them invaluable international experience and exposure.
