UKZN Women’s Volleyball team made history defeating University of Western Cape in the final of the Volleyball South Africa Champions Cup at the Tongaat Indoor Sports Complex on Friday, 13 May 2022.
The UKZN Team are the first women’s squad from the province to be crowned winners of the prestigious Champions Cup in the history of the tournament.
In the final match, UKZN were looking for revenge after losing to UWC in the round-robin phase of the tournament.
It was a hard-fought, scintillating encounter that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
Going into the final set of the game, UWC had levelled matters at 2-all, setting up for what would be an incredible fight from UKZN to conclude the match with a 3-2 win.
The team praised their captain Reyanka Kistan, Coach Marcie Harold, and the technical team for their hard work and dedication towards their end goal.
UWC had an unbeaten run coming into the finals but it was not to be for the 2018 Champions Cup winners. While, Kamplits Women’s Volleyball Club beat TUKS in the third-place playoffs.
