Western Province Earn Honours as CSA Girls U19 Week Concludes

The final day of the Cricket South Africa U19 Girl’s tournament concluded on a high as teams played for pride and honour in the T20 format on Monday, 20 December 2021, in Paarl.

The two unbeaten provinces in the competition – Western Province and Gauteng – went head to head in a much-anticipated match to start off the day’s proceedings.

Province won the toss and elected to bat as they posted a total of 106/6. Jemma Botha scored 13 (29 deliveries) and Anri Grobbelaar top scored with 22 (41 deliveries). Emily Basel and Malikah Hamza took two wickets each for Gauteng. 

Demica Zaayman top scored for Gauteng with 27 (32 deliveries) with three fours in her stance at the crease, but it was not to be for the Gauteng side as they reached 94/9 in their innings. Caitlin Wyngaard and Kayla Reyneke picked up two wickets each, which assisted Western Province to beat Gauteng by 12 runs and retain their unbeaten streak in the tournament. 

North West Join Gauteng as Log Leaders

North West beat Free State by 75 runs, to ensure that they finished on six wins from seven matches in the tournament. North West set a target of 124/9, with Elandri Janse van Rensburg yet again shinning with the bat scoring 62 (39 deliveries) hitting six fours and three sixes. Anneme Janse van Rensburg was the pick of the bowlers for Free State, picking up three wickets. Free State were bowled out for 49 in 14.1 overs. Humairah Ebrahim took a magnificent five wicket haul for North West. 

Easterns beat Kei by five wickets. Kei were bowled out for 69 with Madison Landsman taking four wickets for Easterns. Landsman has been the cricketer to watch this tournament as she has been brilliant with both bat and ball. 

Easterns scored 72/5 in 11.5 overs. Landsman top scored with 36 (22 deliveries) hitting five fours as she helped steer her team to victory. Sive Silo and Mihlali Langa picked up two wickets each for Kei. 

Border beat SWD by 9 wickets in their match which saw Siyolise Fawule and Liyema Jubati take three wickets each as they bowled out SWD for 47. Border reached the target of 48 in eight overs. 

Alexandra Candler top scored with a brilliant 77 (59 deliveries) hitting eleven fours but it was not enough as KZN Inland fell short by 5 runs to hand Northerns their final win of the tournament.
