WP Off to Winning Start in CSA Women’s Provincial 50 Over Competition

Six Gun Grill Western Province Women continued their winning ways beating Imperial Gauteng Lions Women as the CSA Senior Women’s Top 6 Provincial 50 Over Competition returned in Cape Town on Saturday, 5 February 2022.

The Western Cape-based team won the toss and put the visitors to bat.

Nonkululeko Thabethe scored a steady 58 (105 deliveries) with ten fours in her innings and was well supported by Yolanie Fourie who scored 25 (33 deliveries) hitting three fours.

The Lionesses were bowled out for 151 in 41.4 overs, with Kayla Reyneke taking four wickets for the home team.

Delmari Tucker was unbeaten on 55* (86 deliveries) hitting six fours with Anri Grobbelaar playing the support role with 26 (68 deliveries) as the team reached the target of 152/8 in 42.1 overs.

Jameelah Shaikjee and Fourie took three wickets each but it was not enough for the Lionesses.

In the second Top 6 match, Eastern Storm hosted Senwes North West Dragons in Benoni.

Eastern won the toss and chose to bat. Madison Landman continued in her fine form but fell short of a half century. She ended on 46 (74 deliveries) hitting four fours and two sixes.

The Benoni team were bowled out for 115/10 in 34.5 overs.

Alyssa Erxleben took three wickets for the Dragons.

In the run-chase, Lizri de Villiers top scored for the Dragons with 34(39 deliveries). Elandri Janse van Rensburg also continued her good form with 32 (30 deliveries) hitting three fours and one six as the Dragons reached their target of 118/4 in 27.1 overs to beat Easterns  by 6 wickets.

In the Pool A clash, Boland won the toss and elected to bat first, but were bowled out for 186 in 49.1 overs against Border.

Gizelle Abrahams topped scored with 44 (92 deliveries).

Giane Hartzenburg and Sisipho Siswana took three wickets each for Border.

In return, Border fought hard but fell 8 runs short as they ended on 178/8 in their fifty overs. Genevieve Fritz scored a well batted 54 (115 deliveries) .

In Pool B, Limpopo Women hosted Mpumalanga Women.

Limpopo won the toss and chose to bat, posting 224/7 in their fifty overs.

Khushi Mistry scored a well-deserved 56 (82 deliveries). While, Cynthia Naidoo took three wickets for the visitors.

Mpumalanga Women were unfortunately out of their element on the day as they were bowled out for 80 in 32.4 overs.

Kivashka Naidoo topped scored with 28 (40 deliveries) as Akani Mashimbyi took three wickets for Limpopo Women who won by 144 runs.
