Youth Games Gold Medal for Team SA Netball in Lesotho

Team SA’s netballers maintained unbeaten streak to claim gold at the Region 5 Youth Games, beating Malawi 33-26 in the final in Lesotho on Wednesday.

Going into the final match, the undefeated South African side were aiming to continue their winning streak under the guidance of former Spar Proteas player, Precious Mthembu.

Mthembu’s team were favourites to win and lived up to expectations in a what was an exceptional final as both countries showed their intentions from the start of the encounter. 

Although it was a close match, Team SA managed to stick to their game plan to win all four quarters. 

The netball champions will return to South Africa with the rest of South Africa’s athletes after it was announced that the team have withdrawn from the remaining matches due to the increase of Covid-19 cases.
