Star Proteas Women seam bowler Ayabonga Khaka has capped of an outstanding year for women’s sport with an announcement that she has signed a new partnership deal with leading cricket equipment and clothing brand, Gray-Nicolls.
She made the ground-breaking announcement on her Instagram: “Excited to announce my new partnership deal with a long-term advocate of the woman’s game: Gray-Nicolls, looking forward to a long and fruitful journey with this iconic brand.”
Gray-Nicolls specialising in bats, batting gloves, balls, pads, athletic shoes, team uniforms as well as bags.
The company founded and based in England has had sponsorship deals with many leading international cricketers, some of the best in the world.
This new partnership bodes well for the Eastern Cape native, as she joins a star-studded Gray-Nicolls list of ambassadors that includes the likes of Tammy Beaumont – the first English woman to score a century in all three international formats, another Englishwoman Sophia Dunkley and Australian Beth Mooney.
Khaka made her debut in the green and gold in 2012, in Mirpur against Bangladesh, and she’s never looked back since. The right-arm medium bowler has become a household name. She’s amassed over 160 international wickets across all formats.
If she’s not on international duty for the Proteas Women, Khaka is one of the senior players at DP World Lions Women’s Team and was recently announced as one of the players retained for the 23/24 season.
In May 2022 Khaka featured in the 2022 FairBreak Invitational for the Spirit team. In that same season, she was part of the Team of the Tournament after taking nine wickets.
Soon after, in August of the same year, she joined Guyana Amazon Warriors in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League.
