As an avid sport loving woman, growing up I was never afforded the opportunity to see more women playing professional sport on TV. However, fast forward to 2019 and Brand South Africa have made immense strides by taking a stand for women’s sport.
As the official marketing agency for the country’s brand, it is Brand SA’s objective to get behind our national teams and the launch of Play Your Part in 2011 was an initiative to encourage all South African’s to contribute to positive change by simply playing their part.
“We as Brand SA support Banyana Banyana, the Spar Proteas and all South African national teams that are flying the South African flag high.” – Acting CEO of Brands South Africa Thuli Manzini at the launch of #SASportsFriday
Manzini encourages all South Africans to spread the hashtag #SASportsFriday and in our own way play our part in supporting these various teams.
It is a World Cup year for Banyana Banyana, Spar Proteas, Proteas (cricket), Springboks and AFCON for Bafana Bafana. But what is most exciting of this launch as Founder of Gsport4girls Kass Naidoo mentioned is, “The significance of #SASportsFriday is the fact that women’s sport is at the forefront of this celebration.”
South Africa has always been a sport loving nation and citizens around the country are encouraged to support the women’s teams as much as they back the men’s teams.
“South Africa, show up and play your part. Support our ladies and make the world know who we are and how sport unites us.” – Kimara Singh, UJ Sport Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator
Banyana Banyana having safely landed in France yesterday ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup are gearing up to represent the country. They are in Group B with Germany, Spain and China and face Spain in their opening fixture on the 8th June, at 18:00.
Another team who have the backing of Brand SA are the Spar Proteas Netball team, who are ranked 5th in the world and are looking to come home with a medal, as they gear up for the World Cup in Liverpool from 12-21 July.
We as a nation are so privileged to witness these teams qualify and now jet off to their respective World Cups.
To Banyana Banyana and Spar Proteas, you inspire every young girl whose dream is to be a professional athlete for their national team. We back you 100%, from the first blow of the whistle till the last dying seconds of a game. We are proud and cannot wait to see everything you achieve!
