Dercksen and Sekhukhune Steer SA Emerging to T20 Series Win Against Zimbabwe

SA Emerging sealed a 53-run victory over Zimbabwe at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare on Monday 27 November to win the T20 series 3-2. Top-order batter Annerie Dercksen and seamer Tumi Sekhukhune were stars of the sixth and final T20. 

Winning the toss, South Africa chose to set the target. Dercksen who has been sensational with the bat throughout the tournament, once again played a splendid innings scoring 50 (38) with four fours and three sixes. 

She was well-supported by Andrie Steyn 37 (38), and unbeaten efforts from Nondumiso Shangase 28* (17) and Jenna Evans 38* (26) saw SA Emerging record 166/3 in their innings, with Loreen Tshuma taking 2/20. 

In response Zimbabwe lost their opening batters Mary-Ann Musonda 2 (3) and Modester Mupachikwa 7 (10) in quick succession courtesy of Eliz-Mari Marx and Tumi Sekhukhune. 

Chipo Tiripano 37 (40) with six fours stabilised the Zimbabwe innings, alongside team-mate Kelis Ndlovu 24 (21), hitting one four and two sixes. 

A tactical bowling plan rewarded Tumi Sekhukhune with figures of 3/12, and contributions from Jane Winster 2/12 along with Seshnie Naidu 2/16 ripped through the hosts’ batting order, and they were bowled out for 113, awarding SA Emerging a victory and the series 3-2win.

Sekhukhune was awarded the Player of the Match for her stellar performance with the ball. 

South Africa’s Annerie Dercksen completed the series as top-run scorer with 166 across six innings, while Zimbabwe’s Kelis Ndlovu stood tall with the ball, taking 11-wickets during the tournament.
