SA Emerging Women levelled the six-match T20 series against Zimbabwe 2-2 following a 12-run victory in the fourth T20 at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare on Friday, 24 November despite a valiant half-century from the home side’s Mary-Ann Musonda.
After winning the toss and choosing to set the target, SA lost two early wickets within the powerplay of Annerie Dercksen 4 (4) and Lara Goodall 14 (18), leaving the visitors on a score of 30/2 at the end of the first six overs.
Andrie Steyn 32 (25) with four fours and one six, formed a valuable 41-run partnership with Nondumiso Shangase 26 (35) with three fours, as they steadied the Emerging innings. Steyn lost her wicket after being stumped by wicketkeeper Modester Mupachikwa off the bowling of Linda Mahbhero, with the visitors on 66/3 in the 11th over.
Shangase formed another partnership worth 31-runs with Eliz-Mari Marx 16(14) with one six, before both batters fell in quick succession, as South Africa moved into triple figures in the 17th over. Youngster Asakhe Nyovane played a vital 15 (14) with one four as SA Emerging posted defendable total of 127/7 in their allotted overs.
Kelis Ndlovu was once again the pick of the Zimbabwe bowling unit with 3/19.
Zimbabwe got a off to a disastrous start as Elis-Mari Marx took the wicket of Kelis Ndlovu 0 (2) and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano 0 (1) in the first over setting the home team on the back foot with the score on 2/2.
Mary Ann Musonda put on a valiant fight as she scored 53 (51) smashing eight fours, before she was stumped by Mieker de Reeder off the bowling of Leah Jones.
Ashley Ndiyara 15 (21) with two fours, Josephine Nkomo 10 (19) and Nyasha Gwanzura 15 (9) with two fours, put on a gallant effort for Zimbabwe but the calculated bowling attack of Seshnie Naidoo 1/27, Leah Jones 2/12 and Elis-Mari Marx 2/18, the hopes of victory were dashed for the home side.
Zimbabwe fell 12-run short of the target, finishing on 115/7, awarding South Africa a series-levelling triumph, with two matches left to play.
The next encounter between the two sides gets underway on Sunday, 26 November at 12h00 CAT from the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare.
