Football delivered the goods again on Day Two of the 2024 CUCSA Region V Games, while the going proved to be a trickier for some of the South African teams in action at the Tshwane University of Technology and University of Pretoria on Tuesday, 9 July, 2024.

The opening day saw the hosts pull off winning performances in flawless displays as they went on to notch up several wins, but day two of the Confederation of University and College Sports Association Region V Games wasn’t as straight-forward.

The South African Women’s Volleyball team got Tuesday’s their day off with a defeat, falling short against Zimbabwe and having to settle a 3-1 loss in their opening match of the competition. However, they were able to recover their dominance in their second game of the day to register a 3-0 win over Zambia.

The South African Women’s University Football team is enjoying some exceptional form as they were able to get another commanding victory. They were 8-1 winners against Zambia yesterday. Tuesday’s win means they have scored 16 goals and only conceded once in two matches.

The Netball team also picked up where they left off yesterday as they secured a 93-27 win over Malawi. The victory means they have now won all three of their fixtures in the past two days of action.

The women’s Basketball team had a rather tricky outing against Zambia but managed to triumph in that meeting. The home team ran out 64-59 winners in what would have been a tense affair between the two strong sides.

In the final Basketball fixture of Day 2, South Africa were narrow 61 – 57 winners over Zimbabwe, for a 3-out-of-3 clean sheets records at the Games in Tshwane.

The Chess team weren’t as lucky. The South Africans were not able to get the better of their Southern African counterparts as they went down 1.5 – 2.5. In Chess you are awarded one point when you win a game and half a point when you draw a game, hence the peculiar scoreline.
