Gerda Steyn’s Winning Start

Champion South African runner, Gerda Steyn, has started the year off on a positive note, placing second at the Super Sports Events 5km in Dubai on Friday, 8 January 2020.

Steyn crossed the finish line in a time of 16:25, behind Australia’s Chloe Tighe.

The Nedbank Running Club member took to her Instagram account to shed light on the race.

“Great to start the year with the opportunity to race!! Think I left my racing legs in 2020 but I’ll train patiently until they come back,” she joked.

“Such great fun today (Friday), thank you supersportsevents for a brilliant morning!!!

“We miss the sweaty post-race hugs and high-five (or do we really…?) but really appreciated the fact that we could spend the weekend doing what we love!!!

“2nd place for me in the 5km, time 16:25, behind the speedy clotighe.

“First week of training done…It went so fast,” she concluded.
