During the month of September, South African women in sport broke barriers, were celebrated and honoured, resulting in a stellar monthly #GAL2022 Newsmakers list, powered by the Momentum gsport Newsroom in partnership with Telkom.
This year, the 2022 Momentum gsport Awards took place on the 14th of September where individuals were honoured for playing their part to advance women’s sport. 27 recipients graced the stage in what was a night of glitz and glamour.
Swim sensation, Lara van Niekerk was the star of the #gsport17 show as she walked away with Momentum Athlete of the Year, Sasol Global Woman in Sport and Ministerial Recognition of Excellence awards for her outstanding international achievements.
Also featuring in this monthly #GAL2022 intake are Momentum Proteas stars Marizanne Kapp and Laura Wolvaardt.
Kapp made headlines when her Player of the Final performance guided The Oval Invincibles to the second consecutive The Hundred title, while Wolvaardt concluded The Hundred as the leading run scorer.
Another highlight saw leading wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane earn a runners-up medal in the doubles event at the US Open.
