Hanmaré McAslin closed her campaign in spectacular fashion on Tuesday, winning the girls U18 title at the American Express Junior National Championships hosted by Tennis South Africa at Free State Tennis Stadium in Mangaung, South Africa, on Tuesday, 26 March, 2024.
Competing in U18 girls final for the final time in her promising career, Cape Town-based McAslin clawed her way back from a set down to secure a 3-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Bloemfontein’s Donna le Roux.
“I’m very happy with how I came back from one set down and was able to fight my way back into the match,” said McAslin, who lived up to expectations as the top seed.
“I was worried after the first set, but I told myself I’m not going to lose this match. This was my last year at nationals, so I gave it my all and it worked. I’m very happy.
