Kgothatso Montjane got her 2025 French Open campaign off to a winning start, securing a doubles victory at Roland Garros in France on Wednesday, 5 June 2025, following on the SA number 1’s singles victory a day earlier.

Montjane and doubles partner Yui Kamiji were too good for Ksenia Chasteu and Xiahui Li, securing a commanding 6-0; 6-3 victory in their quarter-final meeting in Paris.

The pair sealed the trophy in 2023 and made the 2022 and 2024 finals, and there is no doubt that the dynamic duo of Montjane and Kamiji will be gunning for a fourth final in a row.

Earlier, on Tuesday – which happened to be Montjane’s birthday – the three-time semifinalist got the better of Chilean, Macarena Cabrillana 6-3, 6-3 to book her place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The victory will see Montjane meet China’s Ziying Wang on Thursday, as she looks to book her spot in the last four of the competition.

The South African wheelchair tennis star is no stranger to playing in the French capital on clay, having contested her first Roland Garros semi-final in 2013, following that with back-to-back semifinals in 2021 and 2022.

Her progression in the tournament was sure to be an emotional one for Montjane, as the last time she was in Paris was for the 2024 Paralympics, where she withdrew from that event.
