Uganda’s Leni Shida and South Africa’s Deline Mpiti earned first and second place, respectively, at the Women XXIV Meeting International – Città di Nembro – in Italy on Thursday, 17 June 2021.

Shida crossed the 400m finish line in a new meeting record time of 51.89, with Mpiti following closely behind in 52.71, with Italy’s Raphaela Lukudo setting a season best a split second behind for third, in 52.72.

20-year-old Mpiti recently made headlines becoming the 400m South Africa national champion, winning in a personal best time of 52.78 at the Sizwe Medical Fund ASA Track and Field Championships in Tshwane.

In January 2020, Mpiti struggled with a hamstring injury and was determined to get into tip-top shape. Her hard work and determination over the past few months is paying off on the track.
