It was a big-hitting weekend for the victors with a total of 33 goals scored in week five Hollywoodbets Super League fixtures around the country, with every single team putting a goal on the score-board on Sunday 24 March, 2024.
For the first time this new season, everything seemed to slot in place for JVW, who celebrated the return to the fold of Nompumelelo Nyandeni with a clinical 5-1 routing of the University of Fort Hare at the UJ Soweto Stadium.
Robyn Moodaly was the first through the gates, opening scoring in the 11th minute before Aliyaah Allie (29’) doubled the JVW first-half advantage, opening the door for the Nyandeni (33’) to add her special touch for a 3-0 half-time lead in the Facebook live-streamed spectacle.
Gabriela Salgado added a fourth at 55 minutes, a time-code dulled for the home team with the red carding of Julia Molin, but even with a player down, JVW’s Tanna Hollis (75’) made sure of her regular contribution before the visitor’s Oyisa Marhasi consolation goal on the stroke of full time.
Log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies took the bait in their Facebook-streamed 3pm kickoff against Durban Ladies FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, with no. 6 Gabonnelwe Kekana scoring inside the first minute and again in the 17th minute, Miche Minnies (26’) adding another to stun the visitors with a 3-nil halftime lead.
Skipper Onelisa Nanasele’s (‘55) succesful penalty was slim consolation for the visitors after Luthando Radebe was adjudged to have been fouled in the box, with Nthabiseng Majiya (78’) and Minnies (90’ +5’) bringing theirs for a 5-1 win and a Sunday goal-equalling winning margin.
Another goal bonanza was on offer in the SABC Sport-broadcast TUT Matshatsantsa Ladies FC’s steadfast battle for home spoils in their 4-1 victory over City Lads at 3pm.
The match’s double-scorer Mamokgaase Senyatsi nailed the first goal home in the third minute before Lads’ Sikelelwa Mhlanga (8’) equalised to keep the pressure on.
Glanny Mafikeng restored the home side’s advantage in the 26th minute, and Senyatsi’s second conversion (35’) ensured a positive turn-around rest before Mokgaetji Ramanna put the match result beyond doubt in the 52nd minute.
TS Galaxy Queens suffered a 4-1 loss at home against University of Johannesburg at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, whiile First Touch FC Ladies won by the same margin on the road to Lindelani Ladies at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
Doing the damage for UJ were Gugu Dhlamini (9’), two for Thato Mofolo (11’ and 80’) and Adrielle Mibe (53’), with the Queens’ Busisiwe Ndimeni’s 68th-minute goal too little to stem the tide at KwaMhlanga, while Rennika Khoza’s (19’, 44’) match-setting double strike each side of halftime lead goals by Dineo Montwedi (53’) and Lebogang Mamabolo (90’ +3’) in KwaMashu, before a lone Mbalenhle Tenza strike for Lindelani Ladies later in extra time.
The weekend results held another bold win away from home when the University of Pretoria travelled to challenge Thunderbird Ladies at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium, their 3-1 succesful campaign rewarded with maximum points in East London.
The weekend’s two drawn results saw Royal AM (Reitumetse Chabana, 2’) share points with the UWC (Ntombifikile Ndlovu, 7’) at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pitermaritzburg, and Copperbelt Ladies (Khanyisile Sikhakhane, 61’) came from behind to share the spoils 1-all with hosts Richmond United (Aphelele Adams, 40’) at Merino Mark in De Aar.
