Former Proteas Women batter Mignon van der Merwe, scored a sensational unbeaten century that propelled the Recon Tactical Free State team to a 4-wicket victory over the Fidelity Titans Women, as CSA Women’s Professional One-Cup action continued Saturday 23 March.

Choosing to field first after winning the toss, Free State had a tough time holding down the top order Titans batting line-up at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

Captain Robyn Searle (65) lead from the front, with Katerina Prior (85) and unbeaten effort from Amogelang Maphangula (65*) as the visitors amassed a total of 263/5 in their innings. Miane Smit took 2/25 as they tried to restrict the visitors.

In response, Mignon van der Merwe (110*) put on a batting masterclass, well supported by Izel Cilliers (47), and an unbeaten effort Elandri Janse van Rensburg (52*) as they chased down the target with 10 balls to spare. Ricea Coetzer took 3/46 for the Titans but it was not to secure a win for the #DaisyLadies.

In the second match in division one, DP World Lions Women were put into bat after World Sport Betting Western Province won the toss at WSB Newlands Cricket Stadium.

The Lions batting unit put on a fine show of batting prowess with Nonkhululeko Thabethe (56), Madison Landsman (52), Diara Ramlakan (25) and Jenna Evans (44) helped the Lions reach a total of 228 all-out.

It was a bowling master class from Faye Tunnicliffe who took 5/30 as the hosts restricted their visitors for a chance at the win.

WSB Western Province put up a good fight with Lara Goodall (20), Saarah Smith (31), Kayla Reyneke (26), Tatum le Roux (37) but it was the #LionPride bowling effort with Relebohile Mkhize taking 3/32 that bowled out the hosts for 188 runs, and awarding the Lions a 40-run victory.
