Marione Fourie produced a commanding performance to claim the women’s 100 metres hurdles title among standout performances on the final day of the ASA Senior Track and Field Championships at Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch, the Western Cape, on Saturday, 18 April 2026.
Fourie’s victory in 12.69 seconds for Athletics Gauteng North underlined her status as one of South Africa’s premier hurdlers heading into the international season. Tumi Ramokgopa, also of Athletics Gauteng North, claimed silver in 13.13, with Megan Nieman of the same province securing bronze in 13.39.
“I didn’t see the time until the interviewer told me, and I’m really happy I can run 12.69 in these conditions! It just means that there’s a next level coming up, and I hope I can achieve that.”
2026 SA 100m Hurdles Champion, Marione Fourie
In the middle-distance events, Karabo More of Athletics Gauteng North demonstrated her credentials as an emerging force in the 1500 metres, powering to gold in a commanding display with a time of four minutes 11.54 seconds.
Prudence Sekgodiso of KwaZulu-Natal Athletics claimed silver in four minutes 14.38 seconds, while Danielle Verster of Athletics Central North West secured bronze in four minutes 16.86 seconds.
“The race really went well, there was no strategy. We were just going with the girls and seeing how far we can all go, and taking risks at the last lap.”
2026 SA 1500m Champion, Karabo More
Distance runner Kayla la Grange proved her versatility in the women’s 200 metres final, claiming gold in 23.37 seconds for Central Gauteng Athletics. Anastaysha George of Athletics Gauteng North earned silver in 23.53 seconds, with Rume Burger of Athletics Free State securing bronze in 23.64 seconds.
In the field events, the women demonstrated consistent excellence across multiple disciplines. Kristi Snyman of Western Province Athletics cleared 1.83 metres to claim the women’s high jump title, with Martha Nkosi of Central Gauteng Athletics earning silver at 1.75 metres and Marianne Malan of Boland Athletics securing bronze at 1.70 metres.
Danielle Nolte of Athletics Gauteng North demonstrated her class in the women’s long jump, achieving a best attempt of 6.49 metres to secure gold. Andrea Cornelissen of Boland Athletics earned silver with 6.30 metres, while Oluchi Abelwe Ndubueze of Central Gauteng Athletics claimed bronze with 6.28 metres.
Jana van Schalkwyk of Boland Athletics delivered a commanding performance in the women’s javelin, securing gold with a throw of 53.12 metres. Mariné Grobler of Athletics Central North West earned silver with 52.77 metres, while Nicole Barnard of Athletics Central North West secured bronze with 50.86 metres.
Ansume de Beer of Boland Athletics claimed the women’s pole vault title with a clearance of 4.20 metres, showcasing her technical proficiency in the discipline. Mire Reinstorf of Boland Athletics earned silver with 3.96 metres, while Mienke Krems of Boland Athletics secured bronze with 3.26 metres.
