Captained by Justine Palframan, respectively, a revised 5-member national team departed on Wednesday (last night) for Yokohama, Japan between (11-12 May) in what will be South Africa’s maiden participation in the IAAF World Relays.

The national team, consisting of 5 women, will compete in the men’s and women’s 4x100m events, as well as the mixed 4x400m.

The team suffered three withdrawals of women’s national record holder Carina Horn, world junior 400m hurdles champion Zeney van der Walt and Wenda Nel.

We will Soldier On – Skhosana

“We will soldier on with the athletes we have, and make the best of the contest,” said Aleck Skhosana, the President of Athletics South Africa. 

“It is going to be a very competitive championship and predictably exciting. The team we are sending has a mandate to reach the podium in each event.”

The women’s 4x100m team, will feature women’s captain Justine Palframan, SA champion Tebogo Mamatu, hurdler Rikenette Steenkamp and Rose Xeyi. Palframan will also anchor the mixed 4x400m event alongside males Isaacs, Thapelo Phora and Pieter Conradie.
