South Africa, Uganda and Madagascar produced top performances on day 1 of the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens at Mustapha Ben Jannet Stadium in Monastir on Friday, 29 April 2022.
Defending champions South Africa minced Senegal in their first Pool A game, defeating them 53-0 before they proceeded to outshine Zimbabwe 15-0 in their second match of the day.
Uganda, who defeated Zambia 15-5 in their first game in Pool B, narrowly won the East African derby after they defeated Kenya 10-7.
In Pool C, 2019 bronze medallists Madagascar thumped Ghana 29-5 and later concluded day 1’s fixtures with a narrow 7-5 victory over Tunisia.
The group winners and second-best team in each pool have advanced to the quarter-finals.
The Paul Delport coached side is set to face off against Ghana, while Madagascar battle Zambia and Uganda take on Zimbabwe. The game between Kenya and Tunisia will conclude the quarter-final round.
