Faith Kipyegon, the recipient of the DP World African Woman in Sport award, showcased her dominance on the track by successfully defending her 1500m Diamond League trophy. 

Shortly after her victory at the 2023 Momentum gsport Awards – Africa’s foremost women in sport initiative, the Kenyan track superstar clocked a time of 3:50.72, marking the fifth fastest time ever.

Kipyegon effortlessly set a meeting record at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, USA during the four-lap race. 

She outpaced world silver medalist, Diribe Welteji, who finished in 3:53.93. Britain’s Muir clinched third place, clocking her season’s best at 3:55.16.

The reigning Olympic and world champion’s year has been historic. She now boasts of five Diamond League trophies. Her 1500m victories came in 2017, 2021, and 2022, with an additional victory in the mile from 2015. 

Kipyegon won two gold medals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships and broke three world records this year alone.
