South African junior diving sensation, Zalika Methula, has qualified for the International Youth Diving Meet set to take place in April 2022, in Dresden, Germany.

The 15-year-old placed placed first in the 1m diving trails and second in the 3m event at the SA Junior Diving Championships in Durban.

Methula was full excitement after her achievement, saying: “Feels good and it is a huge achievement. It makes me really proud to be able to represent my country in Germany next year.

“It has been a long and tiring competition. But I am happy with my achievements. It is back to the pool on Monday as I need to keep training over the break to ensure I am ready for all upcoming Championships next year.”

Methula’s mother, Winnie is very proud of her daughter: “Her qualification to the International Youth Meet will allow her an opportunity to dive overseas with the best in the world and also helps her in her world rankings. I am so very proud her, it is never easy to compete in a higher age group and come out on top. She has a good head on her shoulders and found good balance in her life.”

Methula’s coach, Danielo Congrossi, praised the young star for her performances and says that she has a bright future ahead.

“We are very proud of Zalika and the results she has achieved. It is very difficult competing in higher age groups. Despite this she has still managed to qualify. I am very happy and extremely proud of her. I cannot wait to see the fantastic diver she becomes.

“Zalika has the height and speed that works well for her. We aim to qualify for all international competitions in 2022.”

Methula competed in the U15 division in Durban and was also named Best Diver in the U15 division.

In the open Division RSA Cup she was named joint winner for highest score in a dive.
