In 2022, women in sport broke boundaries as they built their brands and, in the process, attracted corporate support through various sponsorship deals.
On our local shores, there is still a major gap when it comes to financial support of women’s sport as compared to countries across the globe. However, there has been significant milestones made to change the game.
One of these highlights include FNB’s groundbreaking move as official sponsors of the Springbok Women’s team, which was announced on the 10th of August.
The financial service provider came on board at a time when the senior national rugby team were preparing for the 2022 Rugby Women’s World Cup, which took place in New Zealand.

Netball South Africa has also had an outstanding year as the federation continues to put plans in place ahead of the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town.
Recently, NSA announced two South African giants, SPAR and TELKOM, as official premium sponsors of #NWC2023.
The two companies are both known for their unstinting support for netball over a long period – SPAR as sponsor of the SPAR Proteas, SPAR International Challenge and the SPAR National Championships and Telkom as sponsors of the Telkom Netball League (TNL) and the Telkom Netball Championships for schools, so it is fitting that they should be involved in the first NWC to be played in Africa.
In hockey, ahead of the 2023 FIH Hockey Indoor World Cup, SPAR once again showed their support of women’s sport as they were announced as presenting sponsors of the sixth edition of the tournament.
The sponsorship of the tournament comes on the back of the retail giant’s nine-year support of the South African indoor hockey women’s team.
