Britz and Rhodes Take Badgers to Away Win in CSA Pro One-Day Cup

Brilliant batting display from Tazmin Britz and Haroline Rhodes secures 6-run victory for the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers in a closely-contested CSA Women’s Pro One-Day Cup match against Recon Tactical Free State, at the Manguang Oval in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 25 November 2023. 

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Badgers opener Tazmin Britz put on a sensational show with the bat as she played a remarkable innings of 136 (101), smashing sixteen fours and four fours, she had solid support from Haroline Rhodes who also scored a brilliant 69 (94) hitting eight fours as Badgers amassed a total of 259 all out. 

Yolandi Potgieter took 3/17 as the hosts tried hard to restrict the visitors. 

In response Yolandi Potgieter played a classy innings of 101 (123) with eleven fours and one six, with contributions from Anika Swart 30 (53), Verunissa Reddy 25 (22), Zintle Kula 23 (23) and Miane Smit 28 (16). 

Free State put on a brave fight but they fell 6 runs short of the target, finishing on 253/7 in their allotted overs. 

Dolphins Host Titans

In the second Division One match of the day, Hollywoodbets Dolphins Women hosted Fidelity Titans Ladies at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead in Durban. Losing the toss, Dolphins were put in to bat first. 

After losing the wicket of Alexandra Candler for 0 (10), Nicole de Klerk put on a fine display with the bat as she scored 90 (79) with ten fours and three sixes. Nobuhle Busane 21 (18), Zintle Mali 24 (28) and Ayanda Hlubi 17 (14) contributed as the home team were bowled out for 216 in the 44th over. 

Gandhi Jafta took 3/50, with Kay-Leigh Tapp and Paulinah Mashishi taking two wickets each for the #DaisyLadies. 

In a sensational response from the Dolphins bowler Kiara Fisher demolished the Titans batting order with figures of 6/19 in her bowling spell. The #DaisyLadies batting unit struggled to make in-roads on the scoreboard. 

Robyn Searle 23 (45), Suné Luus 25 (34), and an unbeaten effort from Katherine Prior 21* (42) was not enough as Titans were bowled out for 106 in the 37th over.

Nonkululeko Mlaba contributed with 3/22 for the Dolphins as the home team secured a 110-run victory. 

Heat take on Kei in Kimberley 

In Division Two, Northern Cape Heat hosted Kei Ladies at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. Heat was put in to bat after losing the toss. Claudia Velskoen 37 (90) and Susan Benade 35 (38) were the pick of the batting unit as Heat were bowled out for 153 in the 46th over.

Luyanda Mgqibi took 4/29 as Kei restricted the hosts to a respectable total.

Northern Cape Heat bowling unit brought the heat as Susan Benade proved destructive with the ball with figures of 5/5 as they bowled out the visitors for 44 in the 15th over and claimed a 109-run victory. 

KZN Inland Host the Dragons 

In the final match of the day in Division Two, North West Dragons Women beat KZN Inland by 7 wickets at the Pietermaritzburg Oval. Losing the toss, Inland were put in to bat first, and the Dragons bowling department proved to be too strong for Inland, who were bowled out for 103 in the 47th over. 

Gugu Ngcobo played a hard-fought innings of 49 (140) with six fours for Inland. Alyssa Erxleben was the pick of the bowlers, with 3/16 for the Dragons. 

In response, Koketso Lesenyego played an unbeaten 42* (83) with six fours, with solid back up from Deidre van Rensburg 27 (54) with three fours, as the Dragons chased down the total in the 28th over, to claim a 7-wicket victory.
