Danelia Price-Hughes won the silver medal in the Junior Women’s Single Sculls at the 2024 World Rowing Under 19 Championships on Sunday, 25 August 2024. The South African rower fought hard in the race as she chased every stroke of current champion Bianca Ifteni.
When the race reached the halfway point Price-Hughes continued to put her Romanian opponent to the test however, the experience of Ifteni showed as she was clear length with 500m to go.
Ifteni managed to stay ahead of the South African chaser with a powerful rowing performance to maintain her first place, with Germany’s Julia Stoeber the bronze medal winner.

Price-Hughes’s prowess as an athlete has positioned her as a Finalist in the School Sport Star of Year Award category for this year’s for a Momentum gsport Awards, after she was nominated by her Federation for bossing it in the world of rowing.
Just this year, the teenager has won gold in Single Scull, Double, and Quad at the 2024 South African Schools Championships, which saw her consolidate her status as the Best Junior in Mzansi.
The past few years have also been rather successful for Price-Hughes on the international stage, who secured gold medals at the Boat Race in 2021, 2022, and 2023. She also managed a commendable 6th-place finish in the Junior Women’s Double, at the 2023 U19 World Rowing Championships.
The future looks bright for Price-Hughes.
