SA running great Gerda Steyn broke her own record to win the 2024 Comrades Marathon up-run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, finishing well ahead of Russian Alexandra Morozova and the USA’s Courtney Olsen to defend her title, on Sunday 9 June, 2024.
Steyn crossed the line in 5:49:46, bettering her 2019 ‘up-run’ record when she set the first-ever sub-six hours finish by a woman, by more than nine minutes, for her third Comrades Marathon title in record time.
The 15-min gap she opened up on second-placed finisher Morozova gives insight into the intensity with which she attacked the 2024 finish line, and memorialises her achievement in the record books of the world’s oldest and largest ultramarathon.
