South Africa’s women have closed out the title defence at the 24th CAA African Senior Athletics Championships with nine medals, including five gold, returning home as continental champions in their events and as integral contributors to Team South Africa’s overall title retention at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, Accra, Ghana on Sunday, 17 May 2026.
South African women claimed gold across five disciplines. Karabo More won the 1500m in 4:15.40, Rogail Joseph retained her 400m hurdles crown in 54.73, Kristi Snyman took the high jump with a clearance of 1.84m, Ansume de Beer topped the pole vault at 4.30m, and Colette Uys won the shot put with a throw of 17.63m.
Enya Pooler added a silver in the heptathlon with 5255 points, finishing 54 points behind gold medallist Odile Ahouanwanou of Benin.
The women’s bronze medals were claimed by Zinzi Xulu in the triple jump (13.43m), Leandri Holtzhausen in the hammer throw (66.99m) and Jana van Schalkwyk in the javelin throw (54.36m).

Rogail Joseph was the only South African woman to retain a continental title from the 2024 African Championships in Douala, Cameroon, with all four other women’s gold medals representing first continental crowns.
Karabo More’s 1500m gold came by a tenth of a second over Vivian Chebet Kiprotich of Kenya, while Joseph’s 400m hurdles defence in 54.73 was secured ahead of Dinedye Denis of Ivory Coast (55.15).
“We are elated with the outcome. South Africa are African champions again!” said the Deputy President and Acting President of Athletics South Africa, John Mathane. “The mandate was for the team to bring back the title and so they have. What more can we ask for?”
