South Africa’s Simoné Kruger broke the Discus Women F38 African record at the ASA Grand Prix Series 4 Meeting in Germiston on Wednesday, 13 April 2022.

Kruger’s distance of 34.74 saw her top the para standing category ahead of Mandilene Hoffmann (29.75) and Yané van der Merwe (28.79).

In March, Kruger broke the SA and African records in the Discus for Women F38 at the 2022 Toyota South African Sports Association for Physically Disabled (SASAPD) National Championships and has gone on to live up to her billing.

In the senior 100m race, Carina Horn, top performed once again since her return to the track as she clinched victory in a time of 11.43.

Last week in Potchefstroom, Horn clocked 11.50 and will be ecstatic with the improvement with her time.

SA junior 100m and 200m record holder, Viwe Jingqi, proved that she’s got the pedigree to be a senior star as she came up with a stunning run to win the 200m in a time of 23.10.

In March, Jingqi broke the South African U18 100m record at the South African Junior and Youth Athletics Championships to become the fastest U18 women 100m sprinter in the world.

In the 400m hurdles event, veteran athlete Wenda Nel kept her composure to see off new hurdles sensation, Taylon Bieldt.

Nel was her usual steady self through the first 200 metres as Bieldt charged into the lead, but they entered the home straight, Bieldt made a mistake with her strides as she approached a hurdle, and Nel took full advantage to clinch victory in 55.88. Bieldt finished in second with 56.65 on the clock.
