Division A top three Tornados, Crinums and Fireballs all advanced their 2024 title ambitions as Day 1 of Power Week 2 of the 2024 Telkom Netball League got underway at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg on Friday 31 May, 2024.
The TNL Power Week 2 action was fittingly started with a top-of-the-log clash between Division B’s Kingdom Stars and the Eastern Cape Comets, who upset the KZN team 48-44 to take a clear table lead, with the Comet’s Player of the Match, Goalkeeper Bonnie Wette the difference to decide an evenly-matched contest.
The week’s first Division 1 action followed with the Gauteng Jaguars storming into the offensive against bottom of the log Baobabs, and the winning margin of 78-44 suggests Player of the Match Zanele Mvimbela managed to defend home pride with distinction while the Jaguars attack made merry on the other end.
The 2pm fixture saw Division 2 title challengers Tornados extend no mercy, extending the Lilies’ winless campaign with a 56-35 seventh consecutive defeat, the tie’s winner’s Wing Attack Ponie Senestie delighted to win the encounter’s R2,000 outstanding player prize.
The earlier of Week 2’s Division A concluding matches on Friday saw the determined middle table’s Aloes fight in vain, as the championship-leading Crinums stamped their authority to extend their unbeaten campaign with a 53-43 win.
The opening day of Power Week 2 closed in a fiery affair, as Division A title contenders Golden Fireballs kept a close watch on league leaders Crinums when they advanced to a well-deserved 58-43 win over the North West Flames.
Saturday’s fixtures boast a full complement of six fixtures, with Division B’s Diamonds up against the Comets to start the day, with a Division A bounty to finish the day seeing the Fireballs taking their fight to the Jaguars, and the Crinums to complete the day’s action against the Stings in the day’s final tie.
