Hollywoodbets Dolphins Women continued their unbeaten streak to cement their top-of-the-table position, while WSB Western Province Women displayed an impressive all-round game to claim a valuable away victory against the DP World Lions Women in the Hollywoodbets Pro20 Series action on Sunday, 17 November, 2024.
At the DP World Wanderers Stadium, the WSB Western Province Women batted with flair to post a commanding 198/4 in their 20 overs. Opener Faye Tunnicliffe led from the front with a stylish 58 off just 32 balls, while seasoned campaigner and opening partner Dané van Niekerk anchored the innings with a blistering 51 off the same number of balls. Babette de Leede added a quick-fire unbeaten 44, with Oluhle Siyo providing late fireworks.
The Lions’ bowlers toiled hard for precious reward, with Jenna Evans returning figures of 2/33, and Tumi Sekhukhune and Kgomotso Rapoo picking up a wicket each.
The Lions Women, chasing 199, struggled to match the momentum of the Western Province attack. Tazmin Brits fought valiantly with a gritty 40, and Sunette Viljoen-Louw contributed 29, but regular wickets hampered the chase.
Leah Jones was the standout bowler for WSB, claiming a superb 3/29, while Refiloe Bomvana, Kayla Reyneke and Tatum le Roux chipped in with timely strikes to restrict Western Province to 143/9 in their 20 overs, sealing a comprehensive 55-run victory, showcasing their depth and determination.
Meanwhile, at Chatsworth Oval, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Women once again asserted their dominance in the competition, defeating the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers by 56 runs.
Batting first, Nicole de Klerk stole the show with a match-winning 68, well-supported by Alexandra Candler’s stylish run-a-ball 52. Yasmeen Khan added a brisk 18 to guide the Dolphins to a competitive 145/4.
In response, the Badgers never found their rhythm against a disciplined Dolphins bowling attack. Annerie Dercksen (29) and Jana Nell (25) tried to rebuild the innings, but the target proved insurmountable.
Dolphins bowlers Nondumiso Shangase (1/5), Seshnie Naidu (1/12), Kiara Fisher (1/6), and Jade de Figueiredo (1/15) delivered a masterclass in control and precision, restricting the Badgers to 89/6.
With this win, the Dolphins Women remain undefeated and firmly atop the table, their blend of explosive batting and clinical bowling making them the team to beat in the inaugural Hollywoodbets Pro20 Series, and as the tournament heats up, fans can look forward to more high-octane cricket action.
The Lions will enjoy a well-earned bye this weekend, with Western Province still on the road – this time hosted by the Knights at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, while the Titans host the Dolphins at SuperSport Park in Centurion, both fixtures playing from a 10-am start on Sunday morning.
