Fidelity Titans Seal Emphatic Home Victory over Western Province

Fidelity Titans and Limpopo Lilies made the most of the holiday season, recording convincing home wins in the only CSA Women’s Domestic Pro One-Day Cup league action over the weekend, on Saturday 2 December, 2023.

Titans sealed an emphatic 137-run victory against Western Province, at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Batting first after losing the toss, #DaisyLadies opening pair of Robyn Searle and youngster Simone Lourens got things on the way before Lourens 19 (20) was cleaned bowled by Leah Jones. 

Searle 75 (117) put on a strong partnership with Kathrine Prior before she was run out by Andrie Steyn. Prior’s innings of 79 (99) was cut short after being caught by Steyn off the bowling of Nozipho Vezi. 

Amogelang Maphungula 28 (21) and an unbeaten effort from Tebogo Macheke 35* (28) saw the home side compile 268/5 in their 50 overs, while Leah Jones took 2/45 as the visitors did their utmost to restrict the Titans. 

In response, the unforgiving Titans bowling unit of Monalisa Legodi 3/21 and Paulinah Mashishi 3/35 demolished the Western Province batting order. Babette de Leede fought hard with an unbeaten stand of 77* (64), as wickets fell around her, but her effort was in vain, when Western Province was 131 all out, in the 29th over. 

Backing Legodi and Mashishi up, Ricea Coetzer claimed 2/22, with Kay-leigh Tapp and Gandhi Jafta taking one scalp each for the Titans. 

Limpopo Lilies Host KZN Inland

In the only match of the day in Division Two, Limpopo Lilies comfortably beat KZN Inland by 3 wickets at the Polokwane Cricket Club, with seven overs to spare.

Winning the toss, the Lilies put the visitors in to bat. The top three batters fell in quick succession for the addition just five runs off the bat. No. 4 batter Nonjabulo Shoba put on steady 32 (50) along with Gugu Ngcobo 44 (95), and Nomzamo Shabane contributing with 26 (56), Inland posted 166/9 in their allotted overs. 

Mummy Seleka was the pick of the Lilies’ bowling unit with figures of 3/25. 

In response, Dimakatso Tsotsetsi played a match-winning innings of 44 (75) and an with unbeaten innings from Khanyi Skhosana 31* (38) and Shelfa Mukhari 15* (23),  the home team reached the asking total of 167/7 in the 43rd over.

Gugu Ngcobo and Nomzamo Shabane took two wickets as each for Inland.
