After the first three rounds of the inaugural Hollywoodbets Pro50 Series, Western Province, the Lions and the Dolphins have won two out of two fixtures and lead the table, while the Titans, Knights and Badgers have all lost each of their ties to date.
In the weekend’s action, WSB Western Province Women and DP World Lions Women produced commanding victories as the Pro50 Series continued to showcase exciting local talent in the Gauteng fixtures on Saturday, 19 October, 2024.
At SuperSport Park, Fidelity Titans Women faced off against WSB Western Province Women in a match that saw the display of exceptional bowling and solid batting from the Western Province side. After winning the toss and electing to field first, Western Province’s bowlers made early breakthroughs to keep the Titans in check.
Leah Jones and Nosipho Vezi led the attack, while Jemma Botha delivered a stunning performance with 3 wickets for just 24 runs, stifling the Titans’ efforts to gain momentum.
Despite some resistance from Katherine Prior (22), Tebogo Macheke (22), and Paulinah Mashishi (11*), the Titans were bowled out for 145 in 44.5 overs.
In response, Western Province’s Lara Goodall spearheaded the chase with a stylish 58 before being trapped LBW by Lesedi Madisha.
Faye Tunnicliffe’s unbeaten 46* with the contribution of Kelsey Adams (6*) guided the side to a comfortable win, chasing down the target in 27.4 overs with six wickets in hand.
Meanwhile, at DP World Wanderers Stadium, the DP World Lions Women delivered a powerful batting performance against the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers.
After the Badgers elected to field, the Lions took full advantage, piling up an imposing total of 299/8 in their 50 overs, wiht Sunette Viljoen-Louw playing a sensational knock of 95 before being run out by Khayakazi Mathe. She was well-supported by Fay Cowling, who blasted 82, while Jenna Evans and Diara Ramlakan added valuable contributions to set a daunting target.
The Badgers’ Julandi Saayman was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/35, but her efforts couldn’t restrict the Lions’ dominance.
In reply, the Badgers struggled to build significant partnerships. Mochelle May stood firm with 58, while Nicolien Janse van Rensburg hit a determined 60 before being dismissed by Raisibe Ntozakhe.
Despite a spirited fight, the Badgers fell short, finishing on 189/9 in 38.3 overs. The Lions’ bowlers, led by Cowling and Viljoen-Louw, were on point, sealing a comprehensive 116-run victory.
