In a thrilling revelation for netball enthusiasts, the SPAR Proteas are set to embark on an exhilarating international showdown. They’re gearing up to challenge the reigning world champions, Australia, in a gripping three-test series Down Under.
It’s been a while since the two powerhouse nations locked horns; their last encounter was during the 2023 Quad Series staged in Cape Town. A noteworthy mention is that fate didn’t pitch them against each other in the 2023 Netball World Cup, also hosted at the Mother City venue.
Fresh from a rigorous three-day training boot camp in Cape Town, a formidable 15-member Proteas squad has been sculpted, all prepped to take the Australian challenge head-on.
Reflecting on the past and looking forward to the upcoming series, Cecilia Molokwane, the President of Netball South Africa, remarked:
“We have put the disappointments of the World Cup behind us, and we took some serious lessons from there. We are hoping that this group of players who are selected to face the world champs will take those lessons with them and do their best while on country duty.Netball South Africa President, Cecilia Molokwane
“It is always good to play against nations ranked above us as we are able to get a chance to gauge ourselves and see how far we are from the top, what we need to work on and how to do it,” said Molokwane
Before setting their sights on Australia, the team will delve into one final preparatory camp. They’ll then jet off from South African shores on 12th October 2023. The chosen warriors for the Australian crusade include stalwarts like Khanyisa Chawane, Bongiwe Msomi (Captain) and Karla Pretorius, among others.
