Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies inflicted maximum damage when Miche Minnies netted a hat-trick and Boitumelo Rabale sunk two in the home team’s 7-nil routing of visitors Lindelani Ladies in the penultimate fixture of Week 7’s Hollywoodbets Super League fixtures at the UJ Soweto Stadium last Sunday, 14 April, 2024.
Gabonnelwe Kekana’s 6th-minute conversion and an unfortunate Akhona Simamane own goal was more than suffiient to return the Pretoria side to the top of the log, finishing ahead of Week 6 log leaders the University of Pretoria on a 13-goal difference.
First Touch Ladies posted the next-best winning margin of the weekend when they defeated Thunderbirds Ladies 3-nil on the road in the pick of Saturday’s results, with Hilda Xaba (30’) setting the 1-nil half-time advantage before Boitumelo Senoa (67’) and sustitute Lebogang Mamabolo (’77) settled the match in their favour.
TUT Matsatsantsa FC (Mamokgaase Senyatsi 5’ and Sibongile Ntoane 60’) defended home pride to deliver Copper Belts FC their first defeat of the season, while TS Galaxy Queens’ Mamello Makhabane (35’) scored the tie’s only goal against travellers Durban Ladies FC at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium for the final home win of the weekend.
Royal AM’s Nosipho Mahlawe (22’) made sure of shared points in their 1-all draw against the University of Fort Hare (Kesha Hendricks, 10’) at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, and an extra-time equaliser by Mathapelo Mokgeti (90’+3’) for Richmond United saw them achieve the same result after Nompumelelo Nyandeni (17’) gave visitors JVW FC the early lead at Merino Park in De Aar.
City Lads skipper Sikelelwa Mhlanga (14’, 82’) scored once in each half in their travels to keep the pressure on the University of Pretoria, but the home team’s Machaka Makau (16’), Sinamile Mkhwanazi (27’) and Mamokena Menoe’s (34’) first-half goals ensured three points for Tuks.
Last weekend’s concluding fixture featured saw Gugu Dhlamini’s first-half extra-time equaliser give the University of Johannesburg FC hope after the University of Western Cape’s Sibulele Holweni (6’) drew first blood early in the match, only for the visitors’ Bongeka Gamede (70’) to win an important away tie for her team at the UJ Soweto Stadium.
