The University of the Western Cape Women’s Football Team is set to make history by representing South Africa for the first time at the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers in Blantyre, Malawi, from 16 to 24 August, 2024.
Prior to this year’s edition, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies has been the sole team to represent South Africa at the Qualifiers, and this UWC milestone marks a new era for women’s football in the country, while rewarding the incredible progress and dedication of university team.
The qualification to represent South Africa is awarded to the season’s Hollywoodbets Super League champions, but having already qualified for the CAF Women’s Champions League Finals as 2023 defending champions, reigning HBSL champs Sundowns is replaced in the qualifiers by silver medalists UWC, who have earned the call to represent SA in the annual continental Qualifiers showpiece.
The UWC Women’s Football Team has steadily built a reputation for excellence in South African football, and the Western Cape team’s qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers is the culmination of years of hard work, determination, and strategic development.
This opportunity places them on a continental stage, showcasing their talent and ambition to a broader audience.
