The log-leading Hollywoodbets Dolphins Women edged past the Fidelity Titans Women to maintain their season unbeaten run in Pretoria, and WSB Western Province Women chased down a stiff target to beat the Knights Women in Bloemfontein in the weekend’s Hollywoodbets Pro50 Series action on Saturday, 23 November, 2024.

Dolphins overcame the Titans in a low-scoring thriller at Groenkloof Cricket Oval. The Dolphins Women showcased their resilience to secure a crucial 23-run victory over the Titans Women.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the Titans bowlers had the Dolphins batters under the whip, continuous fall of wickets saw the home side end their innings prematurely, 112 all out in 36 overs.

Yasmeen Khan’s steady 45 stood out as the only significant contribution, with brief support from Seshnie Naidu (15), who was one of only two other batters to reach double figures. The Titans’ bowling was spearheaded by Rasika Maharaj, who delivered a stunning spell of 5/27, while Masabata Klaas claimed 2/10.

But, despite a modest target, the Titans’ chase faltered under pressure, allowing the Dolphins bowlers to apply relentless discipline to dismiss their opponents for 89 in 40.2 overs.

Rasika Maharaj (14) and Masabata Klaas (20) tried to steady the innings, but Dolphins’ bowlers held firm, Jade de Figueirero the best return with 3 wickets for 20 runs, and Kiara Fisher, Naidu, and Sisanda Ngubane all taking two.

Meanwhile, at the Mangaung Oval in Bloem, WSB Western Province Women pulled off a confident 5-wicket victory over the Knights Women to stay in the hunt for a top-two finish.

Electing to field, Western Province bowlers faced a determined Knights batting lineup that posted 220/8 in 50 overs. Miané Smit anchored the innings with a solid 67, while Zintle Kula’s unbeaten 28 added vital runs in the death overs. Caitlin Wyngaard was the pick of the bowlers for Western Province, bagging 3/38.

Chasing 221, Western Province’s batting clicked with a balanced effort. Lara Goodall’s polished 53 and Babette de Leede’s 48 set the tone. Dané van Niekerk (31*) and Kayla Reyneke (10*) sealed the chase in 45.1 overs, finishing on 222/5 to win by 5 wickets.

The Dolphins have entrenched a formidable Hollywoodbets Pro50 lead on the Pro50 table, winning seemingly at will at home and away; and with their win in Bloem, Western Province are now equal on points with second-placed DP World Lions – on a bye this weekend, adding spice to the race for the Pro50 Series top spots.

There are sufficient fixtures remaining in the season for the Titans to stand a chance of correcting their course, but that will mean earning wins against opposition who have held the upper hand over the course of their fortunes. The Gauteng outfit will have their next opportunity against Western Province next Saturday at Newlands, and the visitors will be banking on better results on the road.

Both the Knights (4 matches) and the Badgers (3) are still in search of their first points of the season, and both will eye their next fixture, against each other, at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Saturday coming, as opportunity to break the shackles.
