Week 23 of the Hollywoodbets Super League dished out some mouth-watering results. TUT Matsatsantsa FC came back from a midweek goalless draw against University of Pretoria in a Tshwane Derby to seal a sweet 4-1 victory against Thunderbirds Ladies at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
Mamokgaase Senyatsi scored in the 7th minute to open the flood gates as Tshegofatso Motlogelwa followed with a brace (16’ and 66’). The Pretoria sides goalkeeper Mapaseka Mpuru made a costly error that gave the hosts an own goal to put them on the score board, but it was in the 79th minute that Gonste Homba secured the win to move up a spot to 10th on the log standings.
That result became the only fixture of the HBSL on Sunday, after the game between TS Galaxy Queens and City Lads – who travelled all the way from New Brighton in the Eastern Cape.
The leagues account on X (Twitter account) posted a statement which reads: “The Hollywoodbets Super League encounter between TS Galaxy vs City Lads has been cancelled due to none compliance of venue regulations by the home side TS Galaxy Queens. An investigation is underway and more details will be announced in due course.”
On the 20th of July again, The Rockets failed to arrive on time for their match against University of Western Cape. The match was declared a walkover and as a result UWC FC were given the 3 points from the encounter.
After 18 games played, they remain 5th on the standings after an excellent string of results, including a 6-0 win in the previous match against Thunderbirds on the 11th of August.
City Lads meanwhile, who haven’t played since the 20th of July, will have to wait yet another week in order to get some game time. Their next commitment will be at home at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium, eGqeberha, where they host neighbours Thunderbirds Ladies.
University of Fort Hare lost 1-0 to visiting First Touch Ladies courtesy of a Hilda Xaba goal.
University of Johannesburg made a winning come back after consecutive goalless draws and a loss to UWC to win 1-0 away at Royal AM’s Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.
The win for the Orange Army is a massive confidence boost ahead of a clash with log leaders and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns next week.
A brace for veteran Nompumelelo Nyadeni and a sole goal from Gabriela Salgado earned JVW FC maximum points against Durban Ladies to keep up with the top four teams on the table, a result that will bode well ahead of a tough clash against second-placed UWC.
Copper Belts FC won 2-1 on the road against Lindelani Ladies while University of Pretoria was held by Richmond United to a 1-all draw.
